5, and clarifies Beyond Wonderland he is adventure wonderland defines looking at a site in a new building in the City financial district in London, which might open in 2009. He may also open more branches of Tom’s Place. For all his achievements, some people still think of Aikens as the angry young chef who lost his job at Pied a Terre, then was in the headlines for an altercation with a diner he accused of stealing a spoon. He now exudes calm, joking with staff and happily posing for photographs. This summer, Aikens married Amber Nuttall, who works for Planet Hollywood founder Robert Earl as business development manager at the exclusive members club Fifty London. Aikens is as likely to show up in fashion magazines and in gossip columns as on the food pages. “I’ve got a beautiful wife and I’m just more relaxed,” he said “I’m happy now. “. Livan Hernandez was traded by the Washington Nationals to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday for a pair of minor league pitchers. The 31-year-old Hernandez is 9-8 this season with a career-high 5. 34 earned-run average in 24 starts. The right-hander has been hampered by a sore knee for most of the season but had the latest in a string of strong outings Sunday, giving up two runs over seven innings at San Diego. “Obviously it’s tough to trade a Livan,” Washington General Manager Jim Bowden said “We love Livan, but we’re not here to win tomorrow. We’re here to win for the long term. “The Nationals received two 23-year-old prospects: right-hander Garrett Mock and left-hander Matt Chico.

Both will report to Washington’s double-A affiliate, Harrisburg of the Eastern League. “Livan at least gives us high expectations for innings and hopefully quality innings,” said Diamondbacks General Manager Josh Byrnes. *Gary Majewski’s sore pitching shoulder spurred the Cincinnati Reds to make another move for their bullpen, acquiring right-hander Ryan Franklin from the Philadelphia Phillies. The Reds received money to pay part of Franklin’s $2. 6-million deal for this season beyond wonderland download . They’ll give the Phillies a player to be named after the season. Franklin, 33, was 1-5 with Philadelphia with a 4. 58 ERA in 46 relief appearances. *All-Star pitcher Scott Kazmir is expected to come off the disabled list this week and start Friday night for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in Oakland. The left-hander has not pitched since July 23 because of inflammation in his throwing shoulder alice . Kazmir, 22, is 10-7 in 21 starts with a 3. 36 ERA. *New York Yankees left fielder Hideki Matsui will have his injured left wrist reexamined Friday, at which time he could be cleared to intensify his workouts. alice wonderland . CHICAGO — If Pedro Martinez’s recovery from a rotator-cuff tear is a barometer, it could be at least three months before Bartolo Colon throws again and at least six months before he regains the velocity of his fastball. But if all goes well, there is no reason the Angels right-hander, diagnosed with a rotator-cuff tear Friday, shouldn’t return to full strength by next season. “Every case is different, every tear is different, and every pitching style is different, but because Bart is a power pitcher, it might take a little longer,” said Chris Correnti, a former Boston Red Sox athletic trainer who oversaw Martinez’s rehabilitation in 2001-02. “Six months would be optimistic After six months, you’d have a good idea alice wonderland baby . My recommendation would be that he has full strength and range of motion before he starts throwing again. “Martinez was shut down because of a tear in early September 2001, and, like Colon, chose an aggressive rehabilitation program over surgery. Martinez spent three months in what Correnti called “total body training,” strengthening his legs, lower back, upper back and arm. He gained more than 20 pounds in muscle. Martinez, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, began a 45-day throwing program in early December, going from catch to long toss — “It was like a spring training before spring training,” Correnti said — and returned to form in 2002, going 20-4 with a 2. 26 earned-run average and 239 strikeouts. “It was a lot of hard work, let me tell you,” Correnti said by phone from Fort Myers, Fla. , where he works individually with a number of professional athletes.

“But I still think it’s a better alternative than surgery. “*Jose Molina entered 2006 hoping to be the starting catcher, he spent two months as a part-time player, splitting time with Jeff Mathis in April and Mike Napoli in May, and for the next two months he seemed as visible as a guy in a witness protection program, starting 16 of 56 games from June 1 through Friday. But with Napoli, a budding rookie-of-the-year candidate in June, batting . 169 in July and mired in a three-for-37 skid, Molina started his third straight game Monday night beyond wonderland font . Not since May 30 and 31 had Molina started consecutive games. “At one time, I would have preferred to know what my role was,” Molina said “Right now, I don’t care If I’m in the lineup, I play If I don’t, I sit It’s simple alice wonderland dress . I’m taking it day by day. “Manager Mike Scioscia wanted to give Napoli a few days to clear his head and work with batting instructor Mickey Hatcher, but with Molina warming at the plate — he hit a home run in the fifth inning Monday and has steadily raised his average, from . 170 on May 28 to . 258 — it’s clear Napoli won’t be playing as regularly as he once did. “We don’t need to lock ourselves into any roles,” Scioscia said alice wonderland dvd . “On the defensive side, both guys are doing a terrific job, so we can explore matchups on offense. “*Third baseman Maicer Izturis, who left Sunday’s game in the first inning because of a tight right hamstring, did not start Monday but said he was available to pinch-hit or pinch-run. alice wonderland shirt . VAXJO, SWEDEN — When this quiet city in southern Sweden decided in 1996 to wean itself off fossil fuels, most people doubted the ambitious goal would have any effect beyond the town limits. A few melting glaciers later, Vaxjo is attracting a green pilgrimage of politicians, scientists and business leaders from as far afield as the U. S. and North Korea seeking inspiration from a city program that has enabled it to cut carbon dioxide emissions 30% since 1993. Vaxjo (pronounced VECK-shur), a city of 78,000 on the shores of Lake Helga, surrounded by thick pine forest in the heart of Smaland province, is a pioneer in a growing movement in dozens of European cities, large and small, that aren’t waiting for national or international measures to curb global warming. Initiatives taken at the local level — including London’s congestion charge, Paris’ city bike program and the solar power campaign in Barcelona, Spain — are being introduced across the continent, often influencing national policies instead of the other way around. “People used to ask: Isn’t it better to do this at a national or international level?” said Henrik Johansson, Vaxjo’s environmental controller. “We want to show everyone else that you can accomplish a lot at the local level. “The European Union, mindful that many member states are failing to meet mandated emissions cuts under the Kyoto Protocol climate-change treaty, has taken notice of the trend and is encouraging cities to adopt their own emissions targets. The bloc awarded one of its inaugural Sustainable Energy Europe awards this year to Vaxjo, which aims to cut emissions by 50% by 2010 and 70% by 2025. “We are convinced that the cities are a key element to change behavior and get results,” said Pedro Ballesteros Torres, manager of the Sustainable Energy Europe campaign.

“Climate change is a global problem, but the origin of the problem is very local. “Only a handful of European capitals have set emissions targets, including Stockholm, Copenhagen and London beyond wonderland comic . Torres said he hoped to persuade about 30 European cities to commit to targets next year. Although such goals are welcome, they might not always be the best way forward, said Simon Reddy, who manages the C40 project, a global network of major cities exchanging ideas on tackling climate change. “At the moment a lot of cities don’t know what they’re emitting, so it’s very difficult to set targets,” Reddy said. More important than emissions targets, he said, is that cities draft action plans outlining specific goals to reduce emissions, such as switching a certain percentage of the public transit system to alternative fuels. London Mayor Ken Livingstone’s Climate Action Plan calls for cutting the city’s CO2 emissions 60% by 2025, compared with 1990 levels alice wonderland t shirt . But planners acknowledge the cuts are not realistic unless the government introduces a system of carbon pricing Beyond Wonderland – dafont . Barcelona, Spain’s second-biggest city, has since last year required all new and renovated buildings to install solar panels to supply at least 60% of the energy needed to heat water. The project has been emulated by dozens of Spanish cities and inspired national legislation with similar though less stringent requirements, said Angels Codina Relat of the Barcelona Energy Agency. It’s not only in Europe that cities are taking action on climate change. Several U. S alice’s adventures wonderland . cities including Seattle; Austin, Texas; and Portland, Ore. , have launched programs to cut greenhouse gas emissions alices adventures wonderland . Bogota, the capital of Colombia, has reduced emissions with its TransMilenio municipal bus system and an extensive network of bicycle paths. In Vaxjo, the vast majority of emissions cuts have been achieved at the heating and power plant, which replaced oil with wood chips from local sawmills as its main source of fuel. Ashes from the furnace are returned to the forest as fertilizer. “This is the best fir in Sweden,” said plant manager Ulf Johnsson, scooping up a fistful of wood chips from a giant heap outside the factory. He had just led Michael Wood, the U. S. ambassador to Sweden, on a guided tour of the facility, which is considered state of the art.

Not only does it generate electricity, but the water that warms up as it cools the plant is used to heat homes and offices in Vaxjo. Every week, foreign visitors arrive to see Vaxjo’s environmental campaign Beyond Wonderland – zenescope . Last year, a delegation of 10 energy officials from reclusive North Korea got a tour. Though Vaxjo is tiny by comparison with cities in C40, including New York, Mexico City and Tokyo, the group has been impressed by the city’s progress and uses it as an example of “best practices. Beyond Wonderland tickets “”They’re a small town,” C40’s Reddy said beyond wonderland #5 . “Apply that to 7 million? It’s doable but it’s going to take a lot longer. ” cheshire cat wonderland Beyond Wonderland . A group of obscure chemical compounds with the tongue-challenging name phthalates popped up in the news last week . Although you may have never heard of them, they’re found in scores of consumer products. And they’re linked by some people to a variety of health problems. California became the first state to ban phthalates in toys and other products for children when Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a hotly debated measure into law.

What does shares about peter gabriel the Daily biko gabriel draws News have against the Dodgers? Is the paper overrun with Bruins fans and eager to get the Dodgers out of the paper so more space can be dedicated to UCLA?Below the picture of our dejected shortstop there was another headline, They’re done; stick a fork in playoff hopes. Didn’t they just say that in the headline above? Talk about piling on. Right below that was a picture of a bald man, and the byline: “steve DILBECK,” which suggested he’s mighty proud of his last name, but obviously not thrilled to have the same first name as our former great Dodgers playing first and second. Then I noticed steve’s picture in the paper, and he was smiling. He obviously gets a real kick out of someone else’s misfortune. I checked smiley’s previous work, and every single time he made fun of our local teams, he was smiling in his picture. Now I probably should’ve just thrown the paper away, but I couldn’t resist seeing what smiley steve wrote about our guys. So I read everything he had to say. “Over two months of baseball remain and we can already kiss the Dodgers goodbye,” smiley steve wrote, and wait until I tell Jeff Kent this guy wants to kiss him. “Dead team walking,” he called them, and why does everyone continue to pick on J. D Drew?Smiley continued to scribble “Sixty games to go and they’re done A team left in the sun too long. General Manager Ned Colletti’s one-season patch job a failed experiment. “The way he was going after everybody, I wouldn’t have been surprised to read smiley ripping his own family next. “Forget about some white knight arriving with the trading deadline, this team is beyond any simple repair,” smiley wrote, and I have no idea why he ruled out the possibility of a black knight or Dominican knight arriving to save the day. When I came to the end of his story, I noticed he repeated his point like some kind of kindergarten teacher.

I had to remind myself he was writing for a Daily News audience. “Kent can come back, Garciaparra can return to form,” smiley wrote, “but these Dodgers are not going to overcome four other teams to win the division. “It’s July, and it’s over. “Kent returned, all right, and with a home run best peter gabriel . And the Dodgers have overcome only three teams in the division to date, so it’s not like anyone can say yet smiley doesn’t know his baseball melanie gabriel . Peter Gabriel tickets I just don’t understand why he has to be so hard on our guys. I checked dailynews to see if smiley’s blistering attack had been pulled now that our guys are winning again, only to find a “Put a fork in ‘em?” logo and the website noting in big, bold print the consecutive wins since smiley buried the Dodgers. Here I’m wondering how such a negative writer got his column, and the newspaper is giving him prominent play ovo gabriel . I’m beginning to wonder if Dwyre is somehow behind all this. *I SHOWED the newspaper to Grady Little and Colletti because I figured they’ve never seen a Daily News. The Times emphasizes the negative too, but it seems to favor gory war pictures on the front page over forlorn looks from athletes sledgehammer gabriel . We probably also have lots of negative writers, or so Pete Carroll tells me, but the only thing the rest of us can do, is to be really positive about what we write about. Colletti is a former sportswriter, who knows what that’s like, “although I never took off in a Winnebago for a couple of weeks during the middle of the season,” he said, which is odd, because he was covering hockey and I can’t imagine anyone would’ve noticed he was missing. Anyway, before we won again, I asked Colletti if he knew how much the rest of the L Peter Gabriel – petergabriel . A. media had been behind the team when it went into the dumper — never doubting for a second it would climb back into the race.

He didn’t say anything, and I couldn’t tell if he was all choked up, or just struggling to find the right words. I suggested “some things don’t even need to be said. “And he agreed. T. J Simers can be reached att. j. simers biko peter gabriel . To read previous columns by Simers, go to latimes /simers. peter sledgehammer . Two weeks before the opening of his first fish-and-chip shop, noted London chef Tom Aikens is looking relaxed. Once better known for his hot temper than his brilliant cooking, Aikens embraces colleagues and jokes with his receptionist as he arrives at Tom’s Kitchen, the casual eatery he started last year near his fine-dining restaurant in Chelsea. Tom’s Place, scheduled to open Oct the book of love chords . 29, will serve fish from sustainable stocks on tables manufactured from recycled plastic chords book of love . Customers will use Vegware cutlery made of natural starch and fibers .

In case the green message doesn’t get through, there will be leaflets and displays about suppliers and the environment. “I’ve always wanted to do something with fish,” Aikens, 37, said in an interview book of love peter gabriel . “Fish and chips is the last fast-food business that hasn’t been modified It’s been around since the early 1800s That’s a long time, and it’s hardly changed at all the book of love lyrics Peter Gabriel . I want to help take it to a new level of sustainability. “Instead of the usual cod and chips, Aikens will use pollock for his basic dish book of love Peter Gabriel – petergabriel . Other fish may include megrim sole and coley, as well as Norwegian cod the book of love . Grills will feature Cornish mackerel, sardines and line-caught sea bass and there will be moules mariniere, bouillabaisse and cockles. “It’s trying to get people out of the mind-set of what they always expect in a fish-and-chip shop and giving them information about the fish we’re using,” he said.

“I’ve tried a whole host of different fishes, and I’ve chosen the nicest of the bunch. “Aikens says he is working with various environmental groups, including the Environmental Justice Foundation, the Seafood Alliance and the Marine Stewardship Council book of love peter gabriel mp3 . Much of his fish will come from Andrew Pascoe, a fisherman in Newlyn, Cornwall, who this year was profiled in the Ecologist magazine under the headline “Local Hero. “The potatoes will be Maris Piper, from Worth’s Farm in Deeping St Nicholas, Lincolnshire solsbury hill . Aikens said he chose this variety because of something called “dry matter,” and then he gave a detailed explanation of what this means peter salsbury . It’s basically the starch, which gives chips their taste and color; potatoes also need the right water content for fluffiness. “In a traditional fish-and-chip shop, the chips come from a bog-standard supplier and they chip the potatoes and you’ll get all the little off-cuts as well,” he said. “We’ll get the potatoes direct from the farm and we’ll take out all the little bits, so you are left with nice, baton-shaped chips It means all the chips are cooked evenly,” he said peter hill . “We’re making our own homemade batter, whereas most fish-and-chip shops use a powdered, dry batter. “The batter will be made with high-gluten bread flour, corn flour, sugar, salt, white pepper and yeast, together with a 50-50 mix of Heineken and sparkling water. Having tasted about half a dozen oils, Aikens chose beef drippings for frying.

Washington somersaulted outline Appalachian State Mountaineers across the appalachian university states turf and grabbed his left leg as he got to his feet. Fans let out a collective groan and the coaching staff winced as Washington limped to a spot about 10 yards behind teammates. He took off his helmet and angrily spun it on the ground. “Right before I got ready to turn the corner I felt the pop, so I slowed up after that,” said Washington, who is eligible for the first time since 2003 “I was mad. I don’t need that right now. “I just got a little scared because I’ve been working too hard to get to this point to just have my body fall apart. “Trainers examined Washington and held him out of practice. The incident could be troubling for the Trojans because Washington said he injured the same leg a few weeks before training camp started. His workload through the first four days of practices had been relatively light as coaches evaluated freshmen C. J.

Gable, Stafon Johnson and Emmanuel Moody and sophomore Michael Coleman, who is coming back from hip surgery. “I wish it wouldn’t happen, but the nature of it is pretty mild so we’re not really concerned yet,” Coach Pete Carroll said of Washington’s injury appalachian state university mountaineers . “We’ll see how long it lasts. “*Former USC All-American Ronnie Lott addressed the team before the afternoon practice during a meeting in Heritage Hall. Players said Lott, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, spoke passionately about striving for greatness. “When Mr appalachian state . Lott talked, everybody was listening,” junior cornerback Mozique McCurtis said. Several players said they stole glances at the pinkie that Lott had partly amputated while playing for the San Francisco 49ers. “I think everyone was in shock and awe,” McCurtis said appalachian. “Nobody wanted to ask him about it. “McCurtis, apparently inspired, intercepted a pass thrown by quarterback Mark Sanchez to end practice. *Junior defensive end Lawrence Jackson did not practice for the fourth day in a row because of a groin strain appalachia state . Carroll said Jackson did not attend the workout because he was undergoing therapy in a pool.

Only the analyzes about phantom of the opera top four phanton of the opera diagnoses qualify for the semifinals. “Right at the top of the brackets it says, ‘Subject to change,’ ” Frei said. “I thought maybe we’d have the chance to get something done. “Nevada Coach Dave Hernandez said he understood Utah’s desire to change the game time and was more than willing to make accommodations. “This country was founded on religious freedom, and we respect their decision,” he said. “As far as all the stuff Little League did, it’s out of my hands. “John Rosengren, a Minnesota writer and author of several books about sports and religion, said Snow Canyon “is integrating a dose of sanity, but they seem to be looked at like pariahs. It makes perfect sense not to play baseball on a day that’s set aside for family and worship. “Sports and religion have been colliding ever since British runner Eric Liddell refused to run on the Sabbath during the 1924 Olympics, a story that was eventually told in the Oscar-winning movie “Chariots of Fire. ” Dodgers pitcher Sandy Koufax refused to pitch on the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur during the 1965 World Series, and Brigham Young offensive lineman Eli Herring passed on a large signing bonus by the Oakland Raiders and a potential lucrative NFL career because, as a Mormon, he did not wish to play on Sundays. And two years ago, Todd Miller, a BYU junior and the son of PGA legend Johnny Miller, decided not to play the final round of the Utah amateur state championships because it was scheduled on a Sunday. He hoped tournament organizers would postpone the match until the following day; Miller was forced to forfeit. Frei, 38, said his players were taking the forfeit in stride, as most 12-year-olds do. They spent Monday at Ontario Mills mall and prepared for their game Monday night against Hawaii. Tim Apple, whose son Taylor plays for Snow Canyon, said the choice was probably more stressful for the parents. “There are some among the parents that want to play and some that didn’t want to play,” Apple said “So, there has been kind of a wedge. “. Greg Maddux said the only aspect of his uniform that will matter tonight when he makes his Dodger Stadium debut as a member of the home team is the name across the chest, not the number below it. The fact that teammate Brad Penny has declined to relinquish No.

31 — the number that Maddux had worn throughout a 21-year career before joining the Dodgers on July 31 — has not rankled the newest member of the starting rotation. “It’s how you pitch, it’s not what shirt you wear,” said Maddux, who anticipated wearing the same No all i ask phantom of the opera . 36 he wore Thursday while throwing six no-hit innings against Cincinnati pantom of the opera . “We’re all wearing blue. “But is it a sign of disrespect that Penny wouldn’t offer the uniform number to a future Hall of Famer? “I don’t take anything as a sign of disrespect,” Maddux said phantom opera tickets . “What’s important to me is how I perform on the field and my family phatom of the opera . Other than that, I don’t let a whole lot bother me. “Penny said last week that he would be willing to give Maddux his number as soon as he had acquired another satisfactory number from a teammate, but Penny said Monday night that he intended to keep No 31. “Right now things are going good and there’s no reason to change,” said Penny, who said he was irked by comments made by Maddux’s agent, Scott Boras, that Penny was ignoring tradition “It’s not a lack of respect for Maddux. I’m glad he’s my teammate. “Maddux said he looked forward to pitching regularly at Dodger Stadium, where he is 6-5 with a 3. 20 earned-run average in 15 starts and won Game 2 of the 1996 National League division series as a member of the Atlanta Braves. Phantom of the Opera tickets Maddux said the first big league game he attended was at Dodger Stadium, when he was a youngster and his father was stationed at an Air Force base in Riverside County.

He recalled a Cincinnati player tossing him a ball during batting practice as he sat near the left-field foul pole. “I’ve always loved to come in here as a visiting player,” Maddux said, “and I look forward to spending more than just three days here for a change. “*The New York Mets, looking for bench help, claimed Dodgers utility outfielder Ricky Ledee off waivers andrew lloyd webber phantom of the opera . In the final season of a two-year contract that pays him $1. 5 million this season, Ledee is batting . 245, with 33 of his 53 at-bats coming as a pinch-hitter. “I wanted to play here, but I wasn’t going to do anything,” said Ledee, who becomes an insurance policy in case outfielder Cliff Floyd’s sore Achilles’ tendon problem is more than temporary. *Jeff Kent made his first start at first base since last September after being activated from the disabled list, though the veteran second baseman is no stranger to the position phantom of opera . “I’ve played quite a few games at first base throughout my career, so it’s no big deal,” said Kent, who will likely remain at first until Nomar Garciaparra comes off the disabled list later this week Phantom of the Opera – thephantomoftheopera . The Dodgers opened a roster spot for Kent by placing pitcher Elmer Dessens on the disabled list retroactive to Aug 3 phantom opera . Dessens has a sprained left ankle. *The Dodgers plan to announce formal plans Wednesday for a Dodgers On Demand channel that will be distributed by Time Warner Cable in Southern California emmy rossum . The year-round channel will broadcast classic Dodgers games as well as player profiles, game highlights and news conferences. *Times staff writer Tim Brown contributed to this report. . The Supreme Court has returned to work, and court watchers are again asking the perennial questions: Which justices are most partisan? Who are the real activists? We have tried to make progress on these questions by examining how the justices vote and letting their records speak for themselves. We explored the justices’ voting patterns from 1989 through 2005, an unusually long period of continuity within the court.

(No reliable conclusions can be drawn about Chief Justice John G Roberts Jr and Justice Samuel A . Alito because they have so few votes. )Everyone looks at the high-profile constitutional cases, but to get a real sense of how justices approach their jobs, it’s best to analyze the more routine, less-visible cases that are often more important to people’s daily lives. For this reason, we examined all cases in which members of the court, using settled principles, evaluated the legality of important decisions by federal agencies, such as the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Labor Relations Board, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Food and Drug Administration. We used clear and simple tests to code the decisions of these agencies as either “liberal” or “conservative. ” For example, we counted an environmental regulation as “liberal” if it was challenged by industry as too aggressive, or as “conservative” if it was challenged by an environmental group as too lax. We used equally simple tests to code the decisions of the justices phantom of opera mask Phantom of the Opera . If a member of the court voted to uphold conservative and liberal agency decisions at the same rate, we deemed him “neutral,” in the sense that his voting patterns showed no political tilt phamton of the opera . If a justice showed such a tilt, we deemed him “partisan. ” If a justice regularly voted in favor of agencies, we deemed him “restrained,” because he proved willing to accept the decisions of another branch of government . If a justice was unusually willing to vote against agencies, we deemed him “activist,” in the literal sense that he frequently used judicial power to strike down decisions of another branch. Note that the terms “restrained” and “activist” are purely descriptive, and so permit an objective test of judicial behavior . It is possible that a justice who is restrained, in our sense, is wrong, and that an activist justice is right. On the basis of the evidence, we are now prepared to award the Supremes. (Drum roll please Phantom of the Opera – thephantomoftheopera . )The Judicial Neutrality Award, for blind justice, goes to Justice Anthony Kennedy.

A day relates later, an gillette stadium photos states Oakland environmental group filed a complaint alleging that Apple Inc. ’s iPhone is a health hazard because of the presence of phthalates in the headphone cord. First things first. How do you pronounce phthalates?THAL-ates. What are they?Phthalates are a family of chemical compounds that come in the form of oily, colorless liquids. There are dozens of types of phthalates; the California law bans six of them. How are they used?Phthalates have been used for about 50 years to make hard plastics softer and more flexible in such products as vinyl flooring and seat coverings, raincoats, shower curtains, garden hoses and even sex toys. They’re also found in children’s products such as teething rings and bibs as well as in bath, beach and pool toys. In hospitals, phthalates can be found in intravenous medical tubing, examination gloves, catheters and blood storage bags. They are also used in nail polish to prevent chipping and in perfumes to help the fragrance last longer. Phthalates are so ubiquitous that studies have found them in almost everyone tested. What does the new law do?It bans the sale, manufacturing or distribution of any toy or child-care product that contains more than 0. 1% of di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP) and dibutyl phthalate (DBP).

DBP is used in nail polish and paint as well as toys. The law similarly bans any toy or child-care item intended for use by a child younger than 3 if that product can be placed in the child’s mouth and contains more than 0. 1% of diisononyl phthalate (DINP), diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP), or di-n-octyl phthalate (DnOP) . DINP is the phthalate most commonly found in toys. When does the law go into effect?Jan gillette stadium hotel . 1, 2009. Why are they being banned?Advocates of the ban — including environmentalists, Planned Parenthood and breast cancer awareness groups — point to studies that have linked phthalates to reproductive problems, early onset of puberty, testicular cancer and liver and thyroid damage gillette stadium map . Other research suggests phthalates may contribute to asthma and decreased lung function in men. “When a child puts a phthalate-laden teether in her mouth, it’s like sucking on a toxic lollipop,” said Rachel Gibson, attorney for Environment California, the group that led the push for the ban. Many phthalates are already banned in certain products in the European Union, 14 more countries and in San Francisco. What do opponents say?Trade groups such as the American Council on Chemistry and the Toy Industry Assn gillette stadium events . say phthalates are harmless to humans and point to government reports to back up that view. In 2003, for example, the Consumer Product Safety Commission concluded that the use of DINP in toys and other products for children presented “no demonstrated health risk. “Although studies have found phthalates to be toxic to laboratory animals, fewer studies on humans have been done.

Opponents of the ban argue that the amount of phthalates given to test rats would be an unrealistically high amount if applied to humans. What does the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say?”The health effects of phthalates in people are not yet fully known . More research is needed. “What will manufacturers do now?It would be impractical for toy makers to market one product line for California and another for elsewhere, said Joan Lawrence, a vice president at the Toy Industry Assn gillet stadium . As a result, she expects manufacturers will reformulate their products to eliminate phthalates no matter where the toys are sold. The problem, Lawrence said, is that replacement substances are less tested than phthalates. “It forces companies to go from a known and safe product to a lesser-known substance,” she said. Still, the new law forbids manufacturers from replacing phthalates with any known or likely carcinogen or “reproductive toxicant. “What about the iPhone? The Center for Environmental Health in Oakland has accused Apple of violating a California law after a Greenpeace analysis found the phthalates DEHP and DBP in the vinyl cords of iPhone headphones. The environmental group said it would file a lawsuit unless Apple recalled iPhones, paid a fine and either removed the phthalates or included a warning label with the product. What does Apple say?Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet would not comment on the environmental group’s complaint, but she did note that Apple had previously committed to removing all PVC plastics, including those using phthalates, from its products by 2009. scott. wilson guillette stadium . It was only 12 days ago that the 2006 Dodgers seemed destined to be remembered more for penance than any possible shot at a pennant. They appeared to be too old and composed of too many unreliable parts prone to breaking down, sins of a front office that had seemingly tried to piece together a winner with a roster full of retreads. When veterans Jeff Kent and Nomar Garciaparra went on the disabled list last month — each for the second time this season — the Dodgers were in the midst of a stretch of 13 losses in 14 games. Then the Dodgers turned it around to win nine consecutive games with the aging infielders still sidelined — suggesting that their replacements were more than adequate. Of course, Kent fully intends to log a few more miles on his journey toward Cooperstown, and the 38-year-old infielder provided a vivid reminder of his value Monday night at Dodger Stadium during the Dodgers’ 7-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Activated off the disabled list following an 18-game absence caused by a strained muscle in his side, Kent homered, doubled and drove in three runs as the Dodgers stretched their season-high winning streak to 10 games while opening a 10-game homestand in promising fashion. Revolution Gillette Stadium “I’ve been playing this game a long time gilette stadium . It’s kind of natural,” said Kent, who acknowledged that his side was still bothering him. “We’ll see what tomorrow brings. “Brad Penny pitched eight strong innings and J. D. Drew drove in two runs to help the Dodgers move to within 1 1/2 games of the idle San Diego Padres in the National League West and pull even with the Cincinnati Reds in the wild-card race. Already 8-2 against the Rockies this season and undefeated against their division rival in four games at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers will attempt to continue their mastery of Colorado tonight behind 40-year-old pitcher Greg Maddux, with 33-year-old Garciaparra expected to return Wednesday from a sprained right knee. Kent subbed for Garciaparra at first base Monday, the first time the veteran second baseman had played first since September, and acquitted himself well in the field New England Revolution Gillette Stadium – wikipedia .

. The Dodgers missed Kent more for his bat than his glove, and he didn’t wait long to make an impact at the plate . With Kenny Lofton on third base following his one-out triple in the first inning, Kent smacked a double into the left-field corner to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. “I’m glad to have him back,” Penny said of Kent gillete stadium . “You know he’s going to produce. “After Penny had helped himself in the second inning with a run-scoring double to left, Kent stepped to the plate in the third following Drew’s leadoff walk gillette stadium lodging . Kent sent the first pitch he saw from Rockies pitcher Josh Fogg (7-7) over the center-field fence for a two-run homer that gave the Dodgers a 4-0 cushion. That was more than enough run support for Penny (12-5), whose only blemishes were solo homers by Garrett Atkins in the fourth and Brad Hawpe in the eighth u2 gillette stadium . In becoming the seventh consecutive Dodgers starter to record a victory, Penny gave up five hits and two runs, struck out four and walked none New England Revolution Gillette Stadium – revolutionsoccer . The right-hander is 4-0 with a 0 . 99 earned-run average against the Rockies this season. “They are aggressive hitters, and they swing early in the count,” Penny said.

“Fortunately I got a lot of early outs. “*(BEGIN TEXT OF INFOBOX)StreakingThe Dodgers won their 10th consecutive game Monday, matching the fourth-longest winning streak in Los Angeles Dodgers history .

It’s hard expresses cirque du soleil to get cirque tickets displays past that. “But get past it they do. Time and again. Up and down. What is it that keeps them running up that hill?”It’s tough, it’s hard work and these guys like a challenge,” Carbone said “I think that’s part of their competitive nature. “. FOR THE SECOND TIME in the long history of the Middle East conflict, an enemy of Israel has effectively said: We do not care what you do. Hezbollah — in choosing not to return the two soldiers it seized on July 12, and in its bombardment of Israel — has declared that it does not care if its war-making leads Israel to attack Lebanon’s cities, ruin that country’s economy and kill its people. What matters most is inflicting damage on Israel, weakening its morale and goading it to a level of destruction that will incite the world’s wrath. The Palestinians said as much with their second intifada and their suicide bombings. But this is different because Hezbollah’s daily rainfall of rockets in Israel portends an intolerable military assault without end. What can Israel do — what could any country do? — with such an enemy? Except for a desperate Saddam Hussein during the Persian Gulf War, other countries and armies that would have liked to destroy Israel did not target Israeli cities because they knew that Israel would intensely bomb Cairo, Amman or Damascus Israel had deterrence. Had an enemy dared such an attack, Israel could have compelled it to stop by inflicting massive damage.

With Hezbollah — and with Hamas as well — Israel’s ability to deter attacks or to compel them to stop has been lost. The third strategic means of dealing with an enemy — making a genuine peace — has not been possible because Hezbollah and Hamas are expressly committed to Israel’s destruction cirque du soleil saltimbanco . They see any cessation of hostilities as an interlude before further attack. So Israel has adopted the fourth strategic possibility: to devastate its dangerous foe, which also would restore deterrence cirque soleil . Yet Israel has discovered that against combatants who look like civilians and whose rockets are hidden everywhere, it must fight longer and occupy and destroy much more of Lebanon than it may deem moral, wise or feasible cirque . Even a future international force in southern Lebanon — the possibility of which is highly uncertain — may be incapable of thwarting Hezbollah and would still leave northern Israel in Hezbollah’s rocket range. What strategies remain? No cirque du solei . 5 is intolerable: living with ongoing, and probably increasing, rocket attacks into northern Israel and beyond. Hezbollah’s leader, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, promises that “there are many cities in the center [of Israel] which will be targeted in the phase of ‘beyond Haifa. ‘ “The sixth option is to compel Hezbollah’s suppliers and patrons — Syria and Iran — to end the terror.

Neither country wishes a war with militarily superior Israel (Syria’s saber rattling notwithstanding) cirque du soleil dvd . If every Hezbollah missile into Israel produced Israeli retaliation against Syria, and possibly Iran (including its nuclear production sites), Syria and Iran would be forced to make Hezbollah stop Obviously, this is a last-ditch option circus du soleil . It would escalate the conflict and increase international pressure on Israel to desist. All of Israel’s strategic choices are bad or ineffective or undesirable cirque soliel Cirque Du Soleil . And yet this last option would be the most likely to reestablish the deterrence critical to Israel’s long-term survival — and to peace in the region — by demonstrating Israel’s enduring power to compel an end of attacks circ du soleil . And it might prevent still more massive devastation of Lebanon. Make no mistake: Israel is fighting for its life. It faces a historically new kind of fanatical foe, political Islam, which combines three characteristics: a political-religious ideology calling for its enemies’ annihilation; indifference to, even the celebration of, its own people’s death (because martyrs are rewarded with a place in heaven); and virtually unstoppable technology (missiles) and techniques (suicide bombing) of terror. The political Islamists are emboldened by their newfound power.

As Nasrallah has boasted, “When were 2 million Israelis forced to become displaced, or to stay in bomb shelters for more than 18 days?” And the danger will escalate a thousandfold if Iran, the epicenter of political Islam and Hezbollah’s master, achieves its own invulnerability with nuclear weapons, so that it too can launch rocket and other attacks against its many targets le cirque du soleil . Iran’s former president and current power broker, Hashemi Rafsanjani, spoke candidly in 2001: “The use of even one nuclear bomb inside Israel will destroy everything,” he said, although it would harm the Islamic world cirque solei . “It is not irrational,” he went on, “to contemplate such an eventuality. Cirque Du Soleil tickets “A nuclear Iran, sharing Hezbollah’s and Hamas’ enmity for Israel’s very existence, is a foe with a million times the wealth and destructive might to found, fund and supply many more Hezbollahs against many more enemies, including the hated West Cirque Du Soleil – cirquedusoleil . Israel’s political Islamic enemies are studying and rejoicing over the new geostrategic situation cirquedusoleil. These totalitarians’ ultimate targets — all “infidels,” especially here and in Europe — should study it as well, be sobered and realize that Israel, in fighting this war in its self-defense, to reestablish a geostrategic balance, and for its long-term survival, is ultimately fighting for them as well. circle du soleil . UNWILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT his own dismal campaign may have cost him the presidency, Mexico’s sore loser, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, is threatening to bring the country to a standstill. He repeated his call for a civil disobedience campaign in the aftermath of Saturday’s preliminary decision by the nation’s Federal Electoral Tribunal to review only 9% of ballots cast in the July 2 election. Lopez Obrador, who lost by less than 1% of the vote to conservative Felipe Calderon, has demanded a full recount of all ballots, but the tribunal for now will be looking at polling places where affidavits suggest a possible error.

Already, Lopez Obrador’s cries that he was robbed have left Mexico City with a sizable headache cirque du soleil dralion . The leftist former mayor’s supporters have pitched tents on the city’s central square and along busy Reforma Avenue. As much as Lopez Obrador would like to believe otherwise, this isn’t the Mexico of a quarter of a century ago The nation’s electoral system is now independent saltimbanco . Lopez Obrador hasn’t been victimized by an authoritarian government, as he and Calderon’s party were in the heyday of the long-ruling Institutional Revolution Party, or PRI cirque sol . Instead, Lopez Obrador is now trying to intimidate and undermine the democratic process. In the weeks since the election, Lopez Obrador has been trying to have it both ways — exercising his right to challenge the results before the specialized court created for that purpose while arguing that the vote was rigged and that he will never concede defeat cirque d soleil . Thus far, his attempts to find irregularities have failed miserably. A video purported by Lopez Obrador in mid-July to show ballot stuffing in the state of Guanajuato was discounted by a representative from his own party. He replied, in typical fashion, by questioning the integrity of his party’s representative. Widespread fraud in this election would have been quite a logistical undertaking, involving hundreds of thousands of citizens chosen at random — much like Americans are chosen for jury duty — to operate polling stations . Given Lopez Obrador’s incessant complaining about the unfairness of the election, it is important to remember that the independent bodies that oversee elections in Mexico were largely created and designed in response to the urgings of Lopez Obrador’s Democratic Revolution Party, or PRD.

The tribunal could still call for a broader review, but Mexican law is wary of full recounts lest the election-day work of those conscripted ballot-counting citizens be undermined. Even some within his party, including influential Michoacan Gov cirque du soleil kooza . Lazaro Cardenas (grandson of the nation’s iconic populist president and son of the PRD’s founder), are suggesting that Lopez Obrador’s tantrums are going too far kooza . And 15 of 17 PRI governors, who saw their presidential candidate come in third place, have echoed the assessment of international monitors who called the election exceptionally clean. For their part, the two-thirds of Mexicans who did not vote for Lopez Obrador in July must be feeling a lot better about their decision with each passing day circus solei . Trouble is, even if Lopez Obrador only convinces a fraction of those who voted for him that he is the victim of a rapacious fraud, he can still do the country a great deal of harm. cirque du soeil . Quickest way to the top right now in the Bowl Championship Series: don’t play anybody. Sit tight and let the standings come to you. Take a water break. Yes, Ohio State is getting hammered for claiming No. 1 after beating the likes of Youngstown State, Akron and Kent State — but at least those are real teams. Yes, Kansas moved up four BCS spots to No Cirque Du Soleil – cirquedusoleil . 9 after a win at Colorado, as if that’s never been done before, but at least the Kansas victories involved footballs and chin straps and trainers. But here’s how wacky this season already is:Arizona State did not play Saturday but got four merit-raises to advance to No.

From Kennedy’s determines a spoon voting patterns, silverspoon investigates we are unable to detect even the slightest political tilt. He upholds liberal and conservative decisions at an identical rate — slightly more than two-thirds of the time Justice David H. Souter, a fellow GOP appointee, is the runner-up. Justice Clarence Thomas is the winner of the Partisan Voting Award for the most politically skewed voting pattern. When the agency decision is conservative, Thomas votes in its favor 84% of the time. But when the agency decision is liberal, Thomas votes in its favor merely 38% of the time — a remarkable 46% swing. Partisan voting can be found among some of the court’s more liberal members as well.

Justice John Paul Stevens is the runner-up — with a 40% swing american spoon foods . When the agency decision is conservative, he votes in its favor 46% of the time; when it’s liberal, his validation rate soars to 86% spoontheband Spoon – myspace . Stevens’ partisan voting rate is nearly the mirror image of Thomas’. The Judicial Restraint Award, for the most humble exercise of judicial power, goes to Justice Stephen G Breyer silverware . Overall, he votes to uphold agency decisions more than four-fifths of the time flatware Spoon . Notably, Breyer votes to uphold conservative decisions 64% of the time. The Judicial Activism Award, for aggressive use of judicial power, goes to a most surprising winner: Justice Antonin Scalia He upholds agency decisions only about half the time This is an impressively low number. Under established principles, to which all members of the court subscribe, agencies are supposed to get the benefit of the doubt. According to our tallies, the remaining justices were neither distinctively neutral nor distinctively partisan. Former Justice Sandra Day O’Connor was almost as neutral as Kennedy and Souter.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s votes had a liberal tilt, but not as much as Stevens’, and the late Chief Justice William H antique spoon . Rehnquist’s votes had a conservative tilt, but not as much as Thomas’ or Scalia’s. Of course, our numbers have limitations, and we can easily imagine reasonable objections sppon . But hard numbers are often better than anecdotes, biography or abstract speculation. At the very least, it is impressive to see that the votes of Kennedy, nominated by President Reagan, show no political bias at all — and that Breyer, nominated by President Clinton, has been the champion of modesty and restraint. spoonsports . Viewed from afar, it looks like a tidal wave of sand rising precipitously and ominously over a leafy neighborhood. Up close, its verticality may be even more impressive. The sheer face of golden granules at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach seems to stretch to the sky, an enticing welcome mat for exercise junkies looking to spike their heart rates while churning their screaming legs through the dune’s ever-shifting mass. Not surprisingly, a long list of elite athletes shows up. In recent weeks, for instance, a visitor to the dune might have encountered Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Andrew Bynum of the Lakers or former UCLA defensive back Kirk Alexander, a phenomenally fit personal trainer who spends so much time there that he is known as “King of the Dune. “Kobe Bryant has trained at Sand Dune Park, as have several of his Lakers teammates, past and present wooden fork . Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics, Tony Gonzalez of the Kansas City Chiefs and any number of NHL players, USC and UCLA football players, volleyball players, boxers, fighters, sprinters and WNBA players also have taken on the dune, sharing the sand with a steady stream of weekend warriors. Some run up the hill Others walk Some sprint back down Others take the nearby stairs. The more experienced and fit seem to effortlessly glide to the top Others slog laboriously. Some consider three or four times up and down an adequate workout Others may repeat the drill as many as 40 times Some walk away afterward seemingly refreshed.

Others are nauseated, hunched over a trash can. At the least, all wind up with streams of sweat rolling down their cheeks. “If you can master it, you’re ready for anything,” said Alexander, whose client roster has included Polamalu and former Lakers forward Cedric Ceballos asian spoon . “You tend to be faster, fitter. “In the early 1990s, when Loyola Marymount’s basketball teams ran tirelessly up and down the floor while setting numerous NCAA scoring records, coach Paul Westhead brought them to Sand Dune Park for early-season training. “It’s a serious endurance game,” personal trainer Joe Charles said of the dune, which is about 100 yards long, 50 yards wide and steeped at about a 45-degree angle reflections plastic silverware . “Most people, when they get up there that first time, they’re like, ‘Oh . reflections plastic cutlery . my . measuring cups . God!’ and they hesitate about doing it again. You’ll find that a lot of your professional athletes conquer it and then want to come back and conquer it again and again because it’s challenging — very, very challenging. “Said former USC tailback and sprinter Sultan McCullough, a longtime dune devotee: “It’s the only workout that can make me throw up. “Holly McPeak, an Olympic medalist in women’s beach volleyball and a lifelong Manhattan Beach resident, remembers a time when climbing to the top of Sand Dune Park was practically a solitary experience. “Maybe one or two other people would be up there,” she said. Those days are long past. Tucked into a neighborhood of million- and multimillion-dollar homes in the city’s Tree Section, only a few blocks from the ocean but on the opposite side of a hill from the water, the dune draws athletes from far and wide. Opened as a park in 1964, it is the only remaining area of the city that resembles the original topography of Manhattan Beach, which 80 years ago exported sand to Hawaii to replenish Waikiki Beach. For years it was a local secret, but the park’s popularity has grown so vast in recent years that homeowners in the adjacent neighborhood, rankled by a burgeoning influx of the physically fit, have been successful in lobbying the city for tighter restrictions on the park’s use, mostly relating to noise and littering. City officials don’t like to talk about the park, for fear that stories about it will only add to its allure and rally neighbors to try to shut it down. “Any kind of publicity increases the use and could lead to something negative,” said Idris Jassim Al-Oboudi, recreation services manager, adding that the city is trying to manage the demand.

“My job is to keep that park open. “Rain or shine, the dune is rarely without visitors. Four times a year, the sand having fanned out from repeated churning, the park is closed for the better part of a day while the dune is replenished baby spoon . Sand is scooped from the bottom, loaded into dump trucks and carried through the neighborhood to the top, where it is dumped to be shifted anew. “Overall, it’s a great workout,” said Nono, who trains jiu-jitsu competitors at his studio in neighboring Hermosa Beach, among them former Ultimate Fighting Championships kingpin Royce Gracie, and incorporates dune training into their regimen ladle . “It’s Mother Nature sitting there telling you, ‘Come here, let me help you. ‘ “Of course, not everybody views it that way initially Spoon – spoontheband . “The first time you see the dune, it’s pretty intimidating,” said Joe Carbone, a Lakers strength and conditioning coach way we get by . “It’s very steep and seems very long, like it goes on forever everything hits at once . And it’s sand, so it’s tough to get through it. “McPeak knows about that. Spoon tickets “The harder you push, the further down you sink,” she said, “so you have to be very explosive.

But I unveils Villanova Wildcats got to 1985 villanova roster tells know the man, and watching a nice guy fall apart isn’t as funny to me as it is to the rest of you. So this column will only have an average amount of David Hasselhoff jokes. Hasselhoff emerged this summer as our culture’s new self-appointed pinata, doing self-parodying commercials, calling himself “The Hoff” on “America’s Got Talent,” working on a musical about his life and generally stealing the crown of camp from William Shatner, Regis Philbin and Joe Lieberman. All while going through an ugly divorce and being involved in an unusual number of public disturbances, especially for a recovering alcoholic. Disturbances that would have gotten a lot more attention if he didn’t like us Jews so much. I met Hasselhoff two years ago, when the producers of a sitcom I was writing about Time magazine cast the former “Baywatch” star to play the womanizing war correspondent. I was sitting in my office at the magazine when the phone rang. I picked it up with my usual corporate greeting, which may or may not have mentioned a free football phone, and the voice on the other end said, “Hasselhoff. ” This was why I wanted to get into Hollywood. Hasselhoff told me how much he liked my script “I read the whole thing,” he said. Because it was 44 pages of giant-margined, double-space type, much of which was lines he had to memorize, I failed to express as much appreciation as he was looking for.

“You know how many ‘Baywatch’ scripts I read all the way through?” he asked villanova wildcats college . “Zero. “Once we started shooting the pilot, everyone loved the guy 1985 villanova wildcats . The only strange thing about him was that he didn’t act so much like David Hasselhoff as like a David Hasselhoff impersonator who, while a huge fan of David Hasselhoff, was in on the joke 1985 villanova wildcats roster . When he was introduced at the table reading, he responded not by smiling or waving but by miming swimming like a lifeguard. A few days later, he stopped me in the hall and asked, “Are you big in Germany?” Confused, I told him that neither I, nor my people, were “Well, I am,” he said, and walked away baseball wildcats Villanova Wildcats – villanova . When our lead actor, Colin Hanks, said he had heard Hasselhoff’s song, “Looking For Freedom,” played over a news segment about the Berlin Wall that morning, Hasselhoff responded, excitedly, “I was just listening to that song in my car!” Then he started singing it. He signed a script for our writers’ assistant with: “Where’s the car? Where’s the girls? Where’s the money?” It was like he was racing to make the Hasselhoff joke before everyone else. Which isn’t easy. A few weeks after our pilot was rejected, Hasselhoff, who had been in rehab two years before, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and checked himself back in.

Months later, I talked to him on the phone while a friend at Time was interviewing him about his cameo in “The “SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. ” He said he had recovered, and he sent both of us a cake villanova wildcats university . Colin Hanks never sent me so much as a muffin. Knowing his history, I didn’t think it was so funny when he appeared bloated and crying in the audience at “American Idol. ” And when his wife divorced him and accused him of beating her, and he showed up in a cast from slicing four tendons and an artery by putting his arm through a chandelier in a “shaving accident,” and the Sun reported that he was thrown out of Wimbledon, I didn’t think it was as funny as everyone else. This has happened to me before basketball wildcats . I spent two days with Anna Nicole Smith, and after seeing how nice she was and how much trouble she had completing basic tasks, such as speaking, I didn’t find her as amusing anymore college basketball . Like Smith, Hasselhoff, who owned part of “Baywatch,” has tons of money and fans and is really good-looking, so I’m not asking anyone to feel sorry for them. It’s me I’m worried about college basketball ticket . Humor comes from ignorance, naivete and emotional distance; every real experience cuts down on those skills. That’s one reason that comedians get less funny as they grow older and that the smart ones — like Bill Murray and Steve Martin — choose more serious work. So either I’m going to have to transition into a more serious kind of columnist or studiously avoid any emotional growth. And serious columns sound like they require a lot of research Godspeed, Hoff. .

MARTINSVILLE, Va villanova wildcats message . — Jimmie Johnson got help holding off Jeff Gordon in a rematch of teammates Sunday from a source roaring out of the blue: Ryan Newman, who hasn’t won a Nextel Cup race in more than two years. Then it was all Johnson could do to hold off Newman in a green-white-checkered overtime finish of the Subway 500 at Martinsville Speedway, while Gordon finished third. Johnson, with his seventh win this season, shaved Gordon’s lead in NASCAR’s Chase playoffs by 15 points to 53, with four races remaining. Johnson and Gordon had dueled to a one-two finish here in April, and for most of Sunday’s race they slugged it out again Gordon led 168 of the 506 laps and Johnson 147 college basketball tickets . But at the end, Gordon’s Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet faded just as Johnson’s began working to perfection. Johnson knew there’d be no repeat duel with his mentor when Newman slipped past Gordon into second place with seven of the regulation 500 laps left. “When Newman got by him, I was able to get away and I pulled away from him,” Johnson said of Gordon “I was excited to see that because of the points But then I’m like, ‘Ooh, Ryan’s hungry football wildcats . He hasn’t won in a while, and he’s going to be very aggressive if we have another caution. ‘ “Sure enough, another one came out, a track-record 20th for the day, with four laps left in regulation georgetown villanova . The cleanup forced the race into overtime, and at that point “I was more worried about the 12 [Newman] than the 24 [Gordon],” Johnson said. On that final restart, “I had a shot at him,” said Newman, who still hasn’t won since September 2005. “I had my nose at his left-rear tire at the start-finish line taking the white flag” of the overtime. But David Ragan spun during the overtime to bring out the 21st caution and freeze the field in Johnson’s favor, and “when the yellow came out there was a lot of dejection that it was over,” Newman said. The win made Johnson the first driver to win three consecutive races at Martinsville since Rusty Wallace in 1994-95. And it was Johnson’s fourth at the flat, . 526 mile track, the smallest on the Cup tour. “He’s Mr.

Martinsville if you ask me,” said Gordon, who has won here seven times himself . “I mean, that guy is unbelievable here. ” Throughout their race-long battle, “there were very few times that I felt like I was better than him today. “Gordon had come into the race on a two-win streak, with a 68-point lead over Johnson, and was hoping for some friendly payback for Johnson’s holding him off here in April softball wildcats . Johnson had been feeling a bit down in their championship duel. After Johnson retook momentum Sunday, “in the end Jeff came over to Victory Lane and congratulated me,” Johnson said sports wildcats . “The last two weeks, he won [at Talladega, Ala. , and Charlotte, N. Villanova Wildcats tickets C Villanova Wildcats - villanova . ], and my bottom lip was dragging the ground so bad I couldn’t even make it over to Victory Lane to congratulate him And then today the guy comes over and congratulates me . He’s certainly a class act. “As a Johnson-Gordon rematch appeared more and more likely Sunday before Newman interrupted, “there was a part of me that was excited about it, and another part of me that didn’t want to see it happen,” Gordon said. “The only way I could have gotten by him was to put him up into the marbles [tire dust and other small debris on the outer edges of the racing surface]. “The last time here, I had a better car at the end Villanova Wildcats . This time he had the better car. “Either way, the protege-mentor duo tightened their stranglehold on the Chase.

After all, expresses elvis costello alison Hezbollah started costello states this conflict — after Israel withdrew from Lebanon — and the government in Beirut was unable to restrain it Beirut’s attitude may be changing, however. On Monday the Cabinet approved sending 15,000 troops to the south in the event of a cease-fire. It would be in Israel’s interest to associate itself with Bush’s promise Monday that “as these Lebanese and international forces deploy, the Israeli defense forces will withdraw. ” Diplomacy may yet provide Israel with the protection for its citizens that weeks of war have not achieved. . Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, a left-hander, won’t have any contact in practice this week in Gainesville after bruising his right shoulder in the second half of Florida’s 45-37 victory at Kentucky on Saturday. “We have to be careful,” Florida Coach Urban Meyer said Sunday “We’ve got to continue to coach him up to manage the game He’s had so much success [running] He’s the kind of persona that takes it. That’s a concern. “Meyer said there were several plays Saturday in which Tebow could have thrown the ball to an open receiver for short yardage but instead tucked it and ran, taking the safer option but also taking unnecessary hits. The Gators have tried to limit Tebow’s touches, especially after he ran 27 times for a career-high 166 yards at Mississippi last month. But Tebow has carried 19, 16 and 20 times in the three games since. He finished with 78 yards in 20 carries against the Wildcats. “He’s getting about 20 carries a game, but a lot of those are him all of a sudden making a play,” Meyer said. “When you take that away from Tim Tebow — not that he’s a normal quarterback — but he’s not what Tim Tebow is to our offense. “The thing we all have to understand is we can’t get him hurt. “Florida safety Major Wright (broken thumb) and offensive tackle Carlton Medder (heel injury) also were banged up in Saturday’s game. Damion Fletcher ran for 152 yards and three touchdowns to lead Southern Mississippi to a 33-24 victory over Marshall at Huntington, W. Va.

Southern Mississippi (4-3, 3-1 Conference USA) jumped ahead 20-0 and withstood a second-half rally by Marshall (0-7, 0-3) to move into a tie for first place with East Carolina in the East Division. elvis costello veronica . In many ways, forward Alexander Frolov had a breakout year for the Kings last season, with career highs for goals (35), power-play goals (10), assists (36) and points (71). But so far this season, Frolov’s numbers are nothing special, with only one goal and six assists in nine games. “We need him to contribute,” Kings Coach Marc Crawford said about Frolov, who is in his fourth season with the Kings ” elvis costella . He was such a big part whenever we had success last year. “A big reason behind Frolov’s slow start has been a groin injury that has plagued him since training camp elivis costello . It helped limit Frolov’s mobility and scoring, which is what he does best. “I had a tough time for the first three games,” the 25-year-old said elvis costelo . “It was frustrating because of the groin injury. “After picking up an assist against the Ducks to start the season in London, Frolov did not score a point in the next three games. But since, Frolov’s groin injury has gotten better and his play on the ice has improved. Frolov currently has a five-game scoring streak, including his first goal of the season scored in the Kings’ 4-2 victory at Vancouver on Friday. “He’s getting better; he scored a goal,” Crawford said. “I don’t think we’ve seen him at his best yet. “Goaltender Jason LaBarbera, who made 26 saves to defeat the Canucks, will get his second consecutive start when the Kings play host to Nashville on Tuesday at Staples Center. “We have two really good goalies right now,” said Crawford, referring to Jean-Sebastien Aubin and LaBarbera.

“Jason has played very well and we will continue to put him in between the pipes because he’s seeing the puck right now and he’s working really well. “LaBarbera has bounced back after making two poor starts to open the season, registering an Elvis Costello – elviscostello . 879 save percentage and 3 . 33 goals against average . Against Vancouver, LaBarbera made nine saves and stopped four power plays in the first period. “You know how it is once you get confidence,” Crawford said about LaBarbera, who also played well after he replaced Aubin in the Kings’ loss at Calgary last week. Forward Ladislav Nagy, who signed a one-year, $3. 75-million contract as a free agent during the off-season, responded well in the Kings’ victory at Vancouver after being a healthy scratch for two games, Crawford said. “It comes down to what he has to be in order to be an effective player,” Crawford said about Nagy, who has four assists this season. “He creates a lot He is a very dynamic guy complicated shadows Elvis Costello . When he’s forceful with the puck and controlling the puck, he’s quite an effective player allen toussaint”"elvis costello . For me, the key is making sure that he stays competitive and doesn’t get knocked off the puck. Elvis Costello tickets “As of Sunday, the Kings’ Michael Cammalleri leads the NHL in goals with eight . Anze Kopitar is sixth in scoring with 12 points (four goals and eight assists). Lubomir Visnovsky is tied for sixth among defensemen in scoring with six points Elvis Costello – wikipedia . –lonnie. white. FIVE YEARS AGO, this column would have been packed with David Hasselhoff jokes.

2 in surveys song promises promises the BCS. Rounding 10 promises reasons out the BCS top five are Louisiana State, Arizona State and Oregon. Two weeks after the Stanford disaster, USC moved up two square pegs into the round No 12 hole The Trojans are No 7 and No 8 in the Harris and coaches’ indexes, and rose to No. 9 in the Associated Press media poll, yet remain chained to a No. 21 computer ranking caused in part by dismantling two traditional powerhouses, Nebraska and Notre Dame, on the road in years when those two programs are a combined 5-11. The saving-grace component to this head scratching is that it’s still early — not to say that things won’t be screwed up late. “They really don’t mean much right now,” Boston College Coach Jeff Jagodzinski said Sunday of the rankings. “Five weeks from now, I think we’ll have a different story. “He should hope not — right now his Eagles are in the BCS title game. How this national talk affects all local teams except for UCLA:USC needs to think now like the Colorado Rockies, who came from Marianas Trench-depth to reach this year’s Bowl Championship Series of baseball (the World Series). It won’t be easy, but it can be done if you consider the way top-25 teams are getting tumbled and tossed like socks in a dryer. “It’s been just a crazy year with all these teams winning and getting upset,” Jagodzinski said. “It’s just been a different year. “Actually, it’s starting to feel like 2003 — and all you Freddy Krueger fans know how that movie ended. That was the year that produced the biggest comeback in BCS standings history LSU debuted at No 12 and kept plugging away until it woke up Dec 7 to find it had risen to No 2 behind No 1 Oklahoma. This was interesting because USC, the No 1 team in both polls, was No. 3. LSU and USC never met on the field that season, but LSU finished ahead of the Trojans in the final BCS standings by a margin of 5. 99 to 6. 15. LSU went on to defeat Oklahoma to win the BCS share of the title while USC claimed the Associated Press crown, and there hasn’t been a day since that someone hasn’t argued about it somewhere. So what does that have to do with now?USC is trying to become this year’s LSU, except USC is trying to come back from No 14 instead of No.

12. The biggest play of the season might turn out to be riverboat LSU Coach Les Miles’ decision Saturday night to let quarterback Matt Flynn take a shot at the end zone instead of attempting a field goal to beat Auburn. The gamble paid off, as Flynn connected with Demetrius Byrd for a 22-yard touchdown pass with one second left. Instead of being out of the national title race with two losses, LSU is knocking on heaven’s door. These are midseason moments that can define seasons and determine championships. No one can predict what might happen next. Ohio State and Boston College have yet to score signature wins, but one team is at Penn State this week and the other is at Virginia Tech. Jagodzinski, for now, is just enjoying the ride promises promises lyrics . His biggest weekend thrill was getting tickets to Saturday’s Red Sox game at Fenway Park. As for Boston College’s No 100 promises . 2 ranking in all the polls that matter?”At this point in the season, they really don’t mean much,” Jagodzinski said 1000 promises . “Before the season started, we weren’t even ranked in the top 25 by the same people. “In the meantime, for USC, it’s time to contemplate a game of catch-up. In eight BCS weeks in 2003, LSU went from 12 to seven, stayed at seven, jumped to four, jumped to three, stayed at three and then made the final jump to No 12 promises . 2. If USC wins out, its computer numbers will improve drastically If the Trojans lose again, they’re out. USC will face two teams currently ranked in the BCS top five and also has California and UCLA left on the schedule. Thanks to that last-second pass from Flynn to Byrd, this season’s national title might come down to another screaming finish. LSU is certainly involved now and USC could be there in the end. The AP could crown a different champion. Could it be Baton Rouge deja vu?–chris. dufresne–(BEGIN TEXT OF INFOBOX)Play it forward1 The No.

2 team in the Associated Press poll has lost the last three weeks: USC, California and South Florida So will No promises promises music . 2 Boston College make it four straight Thursday night when it plays No 8 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg?2 15 promises . Oregon thought it was over when it lost at home to California USC thought it was over when it lost at home to Stanford This just in: It’s not over A win over Oregon this week in Eugene and No 3 promises . 9 USC is back in legitimate national title contention while a win for No 5 Oregon keeps the Ducks on the BCS pond. 3 365 promises . Promises Promises tickets OK, so is this the week? Ohio State has basically skated to the top of the BCS standings because so many top-25 teams have been upset. The Buckeyes should get their toughest test of the season to date Saturday when they travel to Penn State, which is back in the AP poll this week at No 24. 4.

Everyone thought Cal at Arizona State was going to be a possible national title roadblock And it is, except we got the teams mixed up promises promises cast . After two stunning losses, Cal has been reduced to a spoiler’s role as it tries to knock BCS No 4 Arizona State from its perch Promises Promises – wikipedia Promises Promises – wikipedia . 5 3lw promises . Hawaii is surrounded by water and, in terms of the BCS, the Warriors are treading it Hawaii is 7-0, No 17 in the BCS and needs to get to No 12 or better to clinch a major bowl berth 4 promises . But it probably won’t get much of a poll boost from this week’s opponent: New Mexico State Promises Promises . — Chris Dufresne 5 promises . PRESIDENT BUSH WAS SLOW TO endorse an immediate cease-fire in Lebanon, and his explanation for the delay is hardly convincing: An earlier pronouncement would have been pointless, he said, because there was no consensus about how to deal with the “root cause” of the conflict. Yet even an “unsustainable” cease-fire a week ago could have spelled the difference between life and death for many innocent Lebanese and Israelis . Still, those who favor a more cynical explanation — that Washington is acting now because Hezbollah has put up unexpected resistance against the Israeli army — should welcome the administration’s change of heart In asking the U. N Security Council to adopt a French-U. S. resolution calling for an immediate “cessation” of hostilities, as opposed to a “cease-fire,” Bush has regained the moral as well as the diplomatic high ground. In an appearance Monday with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the president explained that the cessation would be the first stage of a two-part process.
